Never have I ever seen a Hindu wedding ceremony…until last weekend. My beautiful cousin Sarah married Joyee this weekend. They have been together for 7-8 years and they are both totally awesome. They were married at Keswick Vineyards in Charlottesville, VA. They decided to celebrate the history of both sides of the family and have a Christian ceremony followed by a Hindu ceremony. The Christian ceremony was beautiful- Sarah had a gorgeous lace wedding dress, an awesome wedding party, and beautiful music. After the Christian ceremony was over, there was a cocktail hour nearby while the wedding party did a quick outfit change. We were then directed to a different ceremony area where a traditional Hindu Mandap was set up. We were then directed to a different ceremony area where a traditional Hindu Mandap was set up.
This is my aunt circling something around Joyee’s head. It definitely has significant meaning, but I’m not quite sure what it is.
This is Sarah being carried in by some of the groomsmen. She has her eyes covered so she doesn’t see her betrothed until the ceremony has begun. So cool!
She was carried around Joyee 7 times. The guys were champs.
Sarah’s jewelry and saree were so beautiful. She also had awesome Henna on her hands.
My uncle is on the right. He was super involved in the ceremony and did a great job.
The ceremony was so fun to watch. It was like nothing I’d seen before. It lasted about 2 hours, but everyone was talking and walking around while the ceremony was happening. Such a fun day.
